Who We Are
Ecoabu.com was established in 2006 by Douglas Whalen, and launched as a commercial venture in 2008. Mr. Whalen and his family reside in the U.S., in the Pacific Northwest. Born in Montana's Big Sky country -- Whalen studied literature and philosopy at a small Catholic college in that state, earned a bachelor of science degree in economics at a small state college in southern Oregon a hotbed of the creative arts and home to the Oregon Shakespeare Festival, earned a master level degree in public service, worked for ten years in a for-profit regional management consulting company, and spent ten years as a senior program officer working in human services for one of the largest United Way organizations in the U.S.
Ecoabu is the result of this melding of experiences from a life in the humanities, business, and the nonprofit health and human services worlds.
Our mission is inspire and enable successful social business entrepreneurs -- people who, in the words of 2006 Nobel Peace Prize laureate Muhammad Yunus, are oriented to social goals and business success.
Our underlying value is to help people start and succeed handsomely in small businesses that are ethically, socially, and environmentally responsible; that deliver outstanding products and services to the marketplace; and that contribute energy, ideas and resources to helping make our world a better place for all of Earth's inhabitants.
